Cannot "See" Domain Server Using Net View - 23/11/2011

Schoolboy error here.

Connected to an Active Directory network and trying to connect to a share on the active directory server, I could not connect using the usual syntax for network shares

net use z: \\domainserver\share

I kept on getting share and server not found, as though it did not exist.  I'd logged into the Active Directory correctly, my username and my PC were in the Active Directory and everything was just the same as the other computers on the network...

Then I remembered I'd set my DNS to use an external DNS rather than the Domain Server.  Dagnammit.  It all makes sense now.  To view "\\sandon" I need to be DNSing to the AD DNS server, in this case it's all one in the same box.

So...REMEMBER...TCP/IP configs need to be right not just the Windows NetBios settings.
